“I am not what happened to me,
I am what I choose to become”

About

I am a Counselling Psychologist registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). I completed my Masters Degree at the University of Pretoria in 1992, with an internship at Weskoppies and Steve Biko Academic Hospital.

I was in private practice in Melville, Johannesburg for 10 years before moving to the Western Cape. Besides being a therapist, I see myself as an entrepreneur and have been involved in running successful businesses.

On a personal level, I enjoy being in nature, whether it’s walking on a beach or hiking. Living in Cape Town offers so many opportunities to experience nature.

I enjoy cooking and particularly braaing with friends. I am also a keen gardener and grow my own vegetables and herbs. I love travelling and exploring new places – travel energises and revitalizes me.

Friends and family are important to me. My friends see me as an organizer with a quirky sense of humour and lots of energy. My partner and I have been together for over 30 years and we live in Woodstock with our cat.

I tend to think out of the box and see my world in pictures and patterns. I find that nature’s rhythm helps me stay on track in this very fast paced modern world we live in.

What to expect?

Making that first appointment can be daunting.  It’s natural to feel nervous and insecure.

Remember, my goal is to help you create a comfortable and safe space in therapy, where together we can explore the path that you are currently on.

To start, we will formulate a shared understanding of the focus and goal of therapy. Therapy is a dynamic process that requires participation from both you and me. I will respect your pace, but I will also encourage you to address your issues and challenges.

How I Work

My therapeutic style is grounded in psychodynamic thinking, with a strong influence of systemic theory. Over the years, my therapeutic style has become more eclectic and I draw on experience to ensure that how I work with a client, suits both their personality and particular problem. My approach tends to be more direct and solution oriented.

Therapy can be transformative, once you start the process of change, change naturally spirals into every aspect of your life.
